The Utes are back in the water for the 2021-2022 season after a wild 2020-2021 season. The Utes were unable to compete in any meets in the 2020-2021 season due to a worldwide pandemic known as COVID-19. This didn’t deter the spirits of the club team as we had a record number of athletes join us this season. 90 swimmers could not wait to get back into the water and compete against clubs in the Rocky Mountain Region. The Utes were very excited to accept an invite to the first meet back in the water at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Utes took 3rd place overall at this meet.
Fast forward to two weeks later, when the biggest meet of the season, besides Nationals, took place at the Don Reddish Pool in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Rocky Mountain Invitational was a huge success filled with suspense, cheering, and an incredible display of team spirit from all over. The Utes were excited to welcome teams from Colorado, Utah, and Montana to compete in the largest meet in the Rocky Mountains. The Utes won the Rocky Mountain Invitational for the third time in a row. Bailey Donaldson tied the women’s 50 backstroke record (held by Cali Diehl) with a time of 28.8. Our swimmers of the meet were Gabe Schultz and Anna Nemeth, who exemplified great team spirit and exceptional swims during the meet leading the team to first place.
It started getting chilly in Utah, so the Utes headed for warmer weather to the Sun Devils Invite hosted by Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. The Fun in the Sun meet was a great way for the Utes to qualify for Nationals and get a little break from school.
In the spring semester of the 2021-2022 season, the Utes will have more chances to show the College Club Swimming world what these swimmers have. College Club Swimming Nationals will be held in Atlanta, Georgia at Georgia Tech on April 8-10, 2022. The Utes are hoping to place top 10 or maybe even bring a title back to Salt Lake City. Stay tuned as the Utes continue their season.
WHO AM I, SIR? A UTAH MAN AM I!
