First Travel Meet of the Season: Buff Invitational

After an 8-hour drive, the team arrived in Boulder, Colorado on Friday for the Buff Invite with teams from all over Colorado and Utah. The Utes ended up second place for the men’s, women’s, and combined scores! We had some awesome swims, with several swimmers taking first place, including freshman Lillie Orlando in the 100 Breast and 200 IM, Junior Nick Skorut in 50 backstroke, Vice President Sam Raber in the 50 Butterfly, and President Connor Morgan in the 100 Back. This was an amazing meet and a great team bonding experience, and we can’t wait to compete against some of the same teams at our home meet, the Rocky Mountain Invitational, in November!

Intrasquad and Team Traditions

We had our first meet of the season this past Saturday, and not only was it a great chance to race each other, but also the finale of one of our favorite team traditions that helps bond the team together. Two weeks ago, all swimmers were assigned a “tribe”—a small group of fellow swimmers led by an officer, intended to make it easier to make close friends on such a big team. A week later, the team was split into the Red Team and the Black Team, and each team had the opportunity to score points for their team throughout the week by having the highest attendance, winning relays or games during practice, or winning the campus-wide scavenger hunt.
